Madison County TRIAD event on May 15 connects older adults with vital, local resources

By Tribune Staff • Instead of making multiple stops to find help, information and support, older adults in Madison County can find one place to turn — the annual TRIAD Senior Fair.

Madison County TRIAD will host its third annual Senior Fair, offering older adults a convenient, one-stop opportunity to connect with valuable local resources.

The fair is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, May 15, at the Main Street Community Center, 1003 N. Main St., Edwardsville.

“There are a wide variety of resources available for seniors but not everyone may be aware of them,” Madison County Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Alfaro, president of TRIAD, said. “Our goal is to help connect seniors with Madison County’s resources and other information to help them stay safe, informed and healthy.”

Alfaro said the event is designed for seniors, their families and caregivers to learn more about services available across the county.

“If you are a senior, care for a senior, or love a senior, you won’t want to miss this event,” Alfaro said.

TRIAD represents a partnership among three sectors of the community working to keep older adults safe from crime — public safety, criminal justice and the older adult community. The organization focuses on reducing crimes against seniors while also addressing the fear of crime many older adults experience.

“We had a good turnout last year,” Alfaro said. “This year’s event is a win-win partnership for seniors and our entire community.”

He said TRIAD moved the event this year from the county’s administration building to the community center to better accommodate parking and improve access.

Madison County offices participating in the event include the Sheriff’s Office, State’s Attorney’s Office, Chief County Assessment Office, Board of Review, Community Development, County Clerk/Recorder’s Office, Circuit Clerk’s Office, Veterans Assistance Commission, 911, Mental Health Board and Health Department. Additional state agencies and nonprofit organizations will also be on hand.

Representatives will be available to answer questions on a range of topics, including senior scams, tax relief programs and other services aimed at helping older adults remain safe and independent. Blood pressure screenings and other health-related information will also be available.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming seniors and their families for a morning of helpful information, meaningful connections and community support,” Alfaro said.
