Glen Carbon Board recognizes Lt. Ned Miller on his retirement
By Kathy Turner • On May 12, the Glen Carbon Village Board recognized Lt. Ned Miller of the police department. Lt. Miller will be leaving the department this month after 27 years of service.
Miller joined the department in 1999. He also served on the Major Case Squad of the Metro East and became the lead officer on drone use for the department. Chief Todd Link outlined Miller’s years of service. Mayor Marcus, on behalf of the full board, wished Miller well in his retirement.
Later in the meeting the board approved the promotion of Sgt. Boyer to Lieutenant and Detective Robinson to Sergeant to fill the leadership vacancies.
As it was the first meeting of the new fiscal year, Mayor Marcus presented his annual appointments. These include trustee committee assignments, department heads and other annual appointments and volunteer committee and commission member appointments.
Several resolutions were passed to begin work in village hall and the police department. The board approved the execution of a Master Service Agreement with FGM Architects, Inc. FGM will oversee the work at village hall which includes window replacement and the purchase of a new generator.
They will also oversee renovation and an addition at the village police department. This will include updating the chief’s office, adding both men’s and women’s locker rooms, updating the fitness center and adding offices in the under-utilized areas of the building.
Bids are expected to be let later this summer for the six-to-eight-month long projects.
Mayor Bob Marcus concluded the meeting with his state of the village presentation. He reported that the village is in good shape both financially and growth wise as evident by the new developments throughout the village.
Sales tax income for the village topped off at $6.4 million this past fiscal year. There was also a $70,023 revenue stream from video game licenses.
Most significant for the past year and in the upcoming year will be the construction of the village water plant this summer. This will be the first time in 30 years that the village has had its own water plant operation. Work is already underway and will really kick off in the summer months.
