Troy Fire Protection District announces paramedics transition to firefighter/paramedics
By Tribune Staff • The Troy Fire Protection District’s board of trustees announced that, on June 1, its paramedic personnel transitioned to dual-role firefighter/paramedics. This initiative will strengthen the district’s volunteer staff and enable it to continue providing comprehensive emergency services to the community.
As the demand for both emergency medical services and fire suppression continues to grow, the district has implemented an initiative that enables paramedics to complete firefighter training and certification, enabling them to serve in both capacities. This transition enhances operational flexibility, improves emergency response capabilities, response times and adds strength to our volunteer staff, and ensures the district remains prepared to meet the evolving needs of the residents and visitors of the Troy Fire Protection District.
Today’s fire service requires trained staff of emergency responders who can respond effectively to a wide variety of emergencies. By transitioning our paramedics into dual-role firefighter/paramedics, we are investing in our personnel while strengthening our ability to deliver high-quality service to the community.
The firefighter/paramedic model has become the standard throughout much of the fire service industry, providing agencies with personnel who possess advanced medical expertise as well as the skills necessary to perform firefighting, rescue operations, hazardous materials response and other critical emergency functions.
The district’s transitioning personnel have completed firefighter training programs, including certification requirements established by the State of Illinois. These members will continue to provide advanced life support services while also serving as firefighters.
This initiative reflects the Troy Fire Protection District’s ongoing commitment to providing the highest level of public safety. The district remains dedicated to ensuring its personnel have the training, resources and opportunities necessary to serve the community effectively.
We are extremely proud of these members and of all our past and present members for their dedication and commitment. Their willingness to take on additional responsibilities demonstrates the professionalism and service-minded culture that defines the Troy Fire Protection District.
