Large swath of Glen Carbon without electricity on June 17

By Tribune Staff • According to the Glen Carbon Police Department’s Facebook page, a sizable chunk of the village has no electricity. “We are aware the traffic lights are blacked out at several high traffic locations and stores,” read a posted statement. “Please take your time and treat blacked out intersections as four-way stops. We do not have an ETA on repair.” Otherwise, the village is operation, said Nicole Dicks, communications manager.

“Village buildings have not lost power,” said Coleen Greenlee, director of administration and technology. “There appears to be a large power loss along 159/Troy Road, Governors’ Parkway and Plum Street, and at many intersections and businesses. The cause is unknown.”

Strong southwesterly winds have picked up speed as the day wore on, creating guests in the 30 mph range.

Per Ameren Illinois’ outage map, around 1,000 people are affected in southern Edwardsville and in Glen Carbon. As of 3 p.m., Ameren Illinois reports more than 21,000 people in the Metro East are without power.
