By Tribune Staff • As demand for renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel continues to grow nationwide, the need for transparent and traceable supply chains for used cooking oil, a critical material for these lower-carbon fuels, has become increasingly important. Ace Grease Service is helping meet that need after earning ISCC EU/CORSIA certification through the SCS Global Services Energy, Biomaterials and Circularity Program.
The internationally recognized certification verifies that used cooking oil destined for renewable fuel production is collected, transported and managed according to rigorous sustainability and traceability standards, helping ensure the integrity of the renewable fuels supply chain from restaurant to refinery.
For restaurants, the certification provides added confidence that the used cooking oil they generate is being handled responsibly and documented through every step of the collection process.
“Used cooking oil has become a valuable commodity in the renewable fuels market, making accountability and transparency more important than ever,” said Max Kostelac, representative at Ace Grease Service. “Achieving ISCC EU/CORSIA certification is a major milestone for us and includes far more than checking a box. The thorough process highlights the strength of our people and our systems, as well as the accountability and transparency we’ve built into every aspect of our business.”
To earn certification, Ace Grease underwent a comprehensive independent audit evaluating its operational controls, employee training, recordkeeping practices and ability to maintain full traceability throughout the collection and transportation process.
As renewable fuel production expands, industry experts expect certifications like ISCC EU/CORSIA to play an increasingly important role in helping fuel producers, restaurants and regulators verify the sustainability of feedstocks used in renewable energy production.
“Many restaurant operators don’t realize that who collects their used cooking oil matters,” Kostelac said. “This certification helps provide assurance to our clients, demonstrating our commitment to operating at the highest standards in the industry.”
