Lady Knights race to 6th at EIU meet

The indoor season continued last week for Triad girls track and field team, as they competed in the Charleston Indoor Invite on Mar. 7.
The meet, which was held at Eastern Illinois University, featured a field of more than 30 teams. Triad finished in sixth place as a unit with 33 team points.
Junior Sophia Schardan earned 10 points for the Lady Knights with a first place finish in the 60 meter. Her time of 7.71 seconds bested the next fastest runner by 0.11 seconds.
Schardan also won the 200 meter later in the meet. Her time of 25.54 seconds made her one of two runners to finish in less than 26 seconds.
In the 4×200 meter relay, Schardan teamed with Addie Fields, Izzy Stein and Mikayla Niehaus for a time of 1:48.61. Their time earned second place.
Niehaus added a fifth place finish for the Lady Knights in the 60 meter hurdles. The senior finished with a time of 10.01 seconds in the race.
Morgan Mason added another scoring finish to Triad’s scorecard with an eighth place finish in the 3200 meter. The junior finished in 12:58.26 to earn her top eight showing.
