Glen Carbon takes next steps in water treatment plant development

By Kathy Turner • The Glen Carbon Village Board on Tuesday, Apr. 14 approved several ordinances and resolutions to move its new water treatment plant forward. The first pertained to the site for the new plant.

The board approved the expenditure for an easement at the site at a cost of $90,000. The board also approved the purchase of real estate and execution of easements on another seven-acre parcel at a cost of $155,000 per acre.

Several funding sources for the project were approved. The first was a transfer of sewer fund monies to the water fund in an amount of up to $2 million.

The second action was to authorize the mayor and/or city administrator to execute the acceptance of a loan through the Illinois EPA. The total amount will be $8 million and will go toward construction costs.

Finally, the board approved the bid from Korte and Luitjohan Contractors, Inc. for the construction of the treatment plant. The total bid was for $16,449,000.

The board also approved a resolution authorizing the reimbursement of funds for capital expenditures.

In other action the board authorized the write-off of uncollectable accounts in the village. This is an annual action to close outdated accounts.

The next meeting of the board will be held on Tuesday, Apr. 28 at 7 p.m.
