Marine Dollar General plans to open in October or November owner says

By Bruce Darnell • Construction on the new Dollar General on Route 143 on the village’s western fringe began in early July and the owner expects it to finish in just a few more months.

Bob Cissell owns the property where the new Dollar General store will go and the construction company building it, the Cissell Mueller Company based out of St. Peters, Missouri. 

Cissell said he expects to have the Dollar General open to the public as early as October, although he expects construction to last four months, possibly finishing up in November.

Cissell said the current phase of construction requires that underground utility lines be lowered to create access to the store, which will also help with visibility at the entrance. When construction started, the crew worked on grading the hill, which exposed the utility lines.

Since the road is owned by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), the process of lowering the lines requires their assistance, which Cissell said should be finished during the week of July 27. 

Cissell said everyone he’s worked with in this process has been great, noting specifically the village board, fire department, as well as generally all the governing bodies. “We’re looking forward to providing the area’s residents with new options for their daily needs,” Cissell said.
