Triad girls track finished fourth place at last week’s Madison County Championship against Edwardsville, Highland, Collinsville, Granite City and Alton. The Lady Knights finished the April 25 meet with 94 team points to best Highland and Alton.
One of Triad’s championships at the Granite City meet came from sophomore Makenna Witham. Her first place finish came in the high jump after clearing a height of 1.58 meters.
Pole vaulter Riley Cissell secured the team’s only other first place medal. She scored ten points for the Lady Knights with her height of 2.74 meters.
Lyla Hoffstot was one of several Lady Knights to finish runner-up at the meet. Her silver medal was earned with a time of 18.94 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles.
Fellow hurdler Mikayla Niehaus also took second place, but in the 300 meter hurdles. Niehaus finished the race in exactly 51 seconds.
The 1600 meter was the only other race Triad earned second place in. Kennedy Bowman took runner-up honors in that event, finding the finish line in 5:32.51.
In both the 4×100 and the 4×800 relays, the Lady Knights finished in third place. They finished those races with times of 51.35 and 11:38.41, respectively.
Sprinter Jaden Brown also found herself in third place at the meet, doing so in the 100 meter dash. Brown completed that race in 13.27 seconds.
For her second individual medal of the meet, Niehaus also competed in the high jump for Triad. A height of 1.47 meters pushed her into fourth overall.
Amanda Bagwell also finished fourth place at the Madison County Championship. The distance runner clocked in at 13:35.03 in the 3200 meter for her medal.
Becoming the second Triad runner to medal in the event, freshman Morgan Mason added another fourth place medal in the 1600 meter. Mason finished the four lap race in 5:49.44.
The 100 meter dash was another two medal event for the Lady Knights. Sophia Schardan was the second Triad runner in the race and took fifth place with her time of 13.39 seconds.
Triad’s 4×400 meter relay also took fifth place overall with a time of 4:37.35. Earlier in the meet, their 4×200 took sixth place with a mark of 1:56.30.
Scoring the team’s only other top six finish was Leah Kitzmiller. She landed in sixth overall with a time of 1:06.88 in the 400 meter.
