Times-Tribune staff

Police have confirmed a 16-year-old victim stabbed by a juvenile April 19 in Collinsville has died.

Chief Steve Evans said on Friday he expects the 13-year-old suspect will soon face upgraded charges.

“Our hearts are heavy for the victim’s family as well as everyone involved in this tragic event,” Evans said. “We do expect that charges on the 13-year-old suspect will be upgraded as a result of the victim’s death.”

A Go-Fund-Me page has been set up by the family of the victim, identified as Kadin Shepperson, to help with funeral and other expenses.

The stabbing happened about 5:56 p.m. April 19 in the vicinity of Webster Elementary School, which is located in the 100 block of West Church Street, according to a Collinsville Police news release. The incident started as a fight between two juveniles, which later evolved into at least two more juveniles intervening.

Police said at some point the 13-year-old suspect, who has not been identified due to his age, stabbed Shepperson in the torso. When police arrived they located the victim and began live-saving procedures. He was transported to Cardinal Glennon hospital in St. Louis and listed in critical condition.

According to the fundraising page, Shepperson died Thursday.

The juvenile suspect is in custody at the Madison County Juvenile Detention Center, according to the release.
