Glen Carbon Board recognizes Retiree and New Police Officer
by Kathy Turner
GLEN CARBON — The Glen Carbon Village Board on Tuesday, Nov. 28 recognized Noah Whitehead for 10 years of service to the community and, in addition, acknowledged his retirement. He has served in the role of parks superintendent. Whitehead was presented a plaque recognizing his service.
In addition, the Board welcomed new Glen Carbon Police Officer Colin McBride. McBride’s hiring was approved at a previous meeting. He was introduced to the community by Chief Todd Link and sworn into his position by Mayor Marcus. His wife, Katie, was in attendance to officially pin on the officer’s badge.
During the open portion of the meeting, Board members heard from Peg Flack. Flack is the community representative for the new 1st Metro East Unitarian Universalist Congregation. They will be moving to Glen Carbon from their previous location in Alton. The church will meet in the Mason’s Building located behind Walmart. They plan an Open House for January 7 and invited the board and the community to attend.
The Board approved an ordinance that changed the language of the tow services for the village. The ordinance was changed to allow for the use of tow companies within or near the corporate limits of the community. This is the result of Beyer Towing withdrawing their services and will allow the police department to continue to have three options for tow services when needed.
The Board approved a contract with GRP Wegman for the installation of a new electrical panel at Schon Park. The panel is needed to operate the lake aerator and the pavilion electrical services. Total cost is $20,358.
The final action of the Board was the approval of eight ordinances to officially abate the corporate real estate taxes on eight parcels of land in the Village. The eight parcels are located at the far west of the Village. The tax abatements were part of a negotiated deal with property owners when the properties were first incorporated into the village.
The next meeting of the Board will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m.

The newest Glen Carbon Police Officer Colin McBride received his badge from his wife (RIGHT) Katie at the regular meeting of the Glen Carbon Village Board on Nov. 28.
