TROY — A 20-year-old Troy man has been arrested for attempted first degree murder after officers responded to the scene of a man and woman in a physical altercation.
According to a Troy Police Department news release, Troy Chief of Police Chris Wasser announced the arrest of Gabriel H. Kammerer for attempted first degree murder (Class X Felony), home invasion (Class X Felony), aggravated domestic battery (Class 2 Felony), aggravated unlawful restraint (Class 3 Felony) and aggravated battery (Class 3 Felony).
On Saturday, Dec. 23, Troy Police Officers responded to the 500 block of Lanahan Drive regarding an open line 911 call of a woman screaming for help. Upon arrival, officers found the residence doors locked; however a female voice could be heard screaming for help. Officers forced entry into the residence locating a male subject identified as Kammerer and a female victim actively engaged in a physical altercation. Officers tased and quickly apprehended Kammerer, who was reportedly armed with a knife, a deadly weapon. The female victim suffered multiple cuts and stab wounds during the incident and was transported from the scene by EMS for medical treatment. The victim is expected to survive her injuries, the news release states.
Wasser in a statement gave his thoughts on the incident’s outcome.
“We are grateful Kammerer is off the streets and the victim has survived her injuries through her perseverance,” Wasser said.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing. No other injuries were reported, the name of the alleged victim is not being released per department policy. Kammerer is being held in custody as the Madison County Jail on a no-bond warrant.
The public is reminded that all arrested persons are merely accused of the charges against them and are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

I truly hope and pray that young man receives the help he needs in order to function in society if ever.
