TROY — Triad’s girls track and field squad has recorded another top-ten showing of the young season.

Their most recent outing came on Mar. 1, when the Lady Knights trekked up to Eastern Illinois University for the Charleston Indoor Invitational. There, they finished seventh out of 32 squads with 29 points.

The unit’s highest finish of the day came from the 4×400 team of Mikayla Niehaus, Riley Cissell, Leah Kitzmiller and Sophia Schardan. Their time of 4:20.33 bested 30 other relay lineups.

Junior Makenna Witham earned the team’s highest individual finishers by claiming third-place in two events.

Witham’s first bronze finish came in the high jump with a height of 1.47 meters. Her other third-place showing came via a mark of 10.19 meters in the triple jump.

Five more of the team’s points came from Riley Cissell and her fourth-place showing in the 200 meter dash. The senior earned her placement with a 27.11 second time against 38 competitors.

Schardan, a sophomore, scored a fifth-place finish in the 60 meter dash. The underclassmen finished her sprint in 8.09 seconds.

Several Lady Knights just missed the cut for scoring, including Kennedy Bowman who clocked in at 2:30.55 in the 800 meter. The junior’s time placed her ninth overall and less than a second off of scoring position.

Triad’s 4×800 quartet of Hannah York, Heidi Braunseis, Morgan Mason and Amanda Bagwell contributed a tenth-place showing after clocking in at 11:31.76.
