Kahok girls win pair of firsts at Madison County meet

COLLINSVILLE — It was a decent day of track and field for the Collinsville girls track team on April 23 at the Madison County track meet in Highland.
The Kahoks totaled 76 points while Edwardsville won the meet with 152 points with Alton taking second at 119.
Collinsville freshman Kwanza Henderson took county crowns in both of the sprint events.
She won the 100 meters in a time of 13.16 seconds to beat Justice Hymes of Alton who ran a time of 13.33. Fellow Kahok freshman Dariana Morris ran a time of 13.85 seconds.
Henderson won the 200 with a time of 26.59 seconds. London Hopkins of Edwardsville took second at 26.76 seconds. Talesha Gilmore of CHS was third at 27.21 seconds.
In the 4×100 meter relay Henderson, Morris and Gilmore combined with Gabriella Askew ran a time of 50.95 seconds. Edwardsville ran a time of 50.17 seconds for second place.
The 400 meters saw Toby Hawkes of Collinsville finish third in 1:05.72 while Askew was sixth at 1:07.59. NeVaeh Bryant of Alton won with a time of 59.09 seconds.
In the 100 hurdles, Ja’Kayla Stern of Alton won with a time of 17.19 seconds with Kahok MacKenzie King showing at 18.8 seconds. Danajah Willis of Collinsville ran a time of 20.28 seconds.
Two Kahok field athletes finished third in field events.
Ellie Rhinehart took third in the shot put with a toss of 34.20 meters or 112’ 2 ½”. Granite City’s Emily Sykes won the event at 38.32 meters or 125’ 8 ¾”.
Sykes also won the shot put at 11.86 meters or 38’ 11” with Kahok Karley Jo Jackson coming in at 8.28 meters or 27’ 2” which was good for seventh place.
In the high jump, Camryn Emig cleared 1.45 meters or 4’ 9 ¼” for third with teammate Madison Price at 1.25 meters or 4’ 1 ¼” to take sixth.
Kaylea Lacey of Alton won the event clearing 1.54 meters or 5’ 0 ¾”.
Catalina Jimenez of CHS ran the 1600 meters in 5:59.54 to take fifth place with Emma Patrick of Edwardsville winning at 5:24.70.
In the 800 meters, Peyton Frey of Highland ran a time of 2:26.14 to win with Layla Grigsby taking sixth for Collinsville at 3:01.30.
Adara Martin of Edwardsville won the 300 meter hurdles in 48.12 seconds with Sadie Demick finishing sixth in 54.11 seconds.
Kahok Throwsday meet
Collinsville hosted the Kahok Throwsday meet on April 25.
Craig Hall of CHS took second place at the meet with a mark of 10.20 meters or 33’ 5 3/4″. Once again Emily Sykes of Granite City took another title with a mark of 12.84 meters or 42 1 ½”.
Karley Jo Jackson was in seventh place at 8.71 meters or 28’ 7”.
In the discus, Ellie Rhinehart took third place with a toss of 35.91 meters or 117’ 9 ¾”.
Emily Sykes won another title by tossing the discus 38.41 meters or 126’ 0 ¾”.
Upcoming Schedule
Collinsville was at SWC meet yesterday however results were unavailable at press time.
On May 9 they will be at the IHSA Sectional meet at O’Fallon.
