GLEN CARBON — The Glen Carbon Village Board on Tuesday, May 28 approved an ordinance that will prohibit camping and campsites in the Village.
The ordinance specifically prohibits the building of campsites or camp equipment on any street, any bridge, any park, any public property, either improved or unimproved, and any public property where camping obstructs or interferes with the intended use of the property.
The exception to the ordinance will be a case-by-case basis permit for unusual circumstances. The example given was during homecoming when carnival workers will camp at the park to oversee their property and equipment.
The ordinance will be enforced by the Glen Carbon Police Department immediately upon approval at the meeting.
In other business, Mayor Bob Marcus awarded the Business of the Month certificate to the YMCA Allison Cassens Child Care Center. The director and members of the staff were on hand to accept the award.
Phillip Bailey addressed the Board as President of the Sons of the American Revolution. He was once again seeking the Village’s approval for a Wreaths Across America Ceremony at the Village Cemetery. The ceremony will be held on December 14 at 11 a.m. The Board approved the request which will celebrate its 7th year in the community.
The Board approved a final plat for the Wein Subdivision located at 91 S. Meridian Road. The plan removed a 2-acre parcel from the property zoned agricultural where a cell tower is located.
The Board also approved a preliminary plat for the Hidden Hills Subdivision for Todd Kabbes, developer. The plan is a revision of a proposal reviewed by the Board in March. Several changes were made for this plan which was approved unanimously. The property will eventually be a residential subdivision for 104 residences over the next five to ten years.
The next meeting of the Board will be held on Tuesday, June 11 at 7 p.m.
