Better Newspapers, who owns the Times Tribune, announced Scott Hoskins as its new publisher and president.
Serving as Better Newspapers Vice President as well as regional manager, Hoskins has been at the company for 17 years, but his experience with the company goes back far further.
Scott Hoskins has served as Better Newspapers’ Vice President and regional manager before stepping into his current role. He began at Better Newspapers in 2007, but his connection dates back to his childhood.
“I’ve been part of this company since I was about 12,” Hoskins shared, discussing his early days labeling papers for allowance money and working as a telemarketer during high school to add more subscribers at Better Newspapers.
Throughout his career, Hoskins has worn many hats, starting in sales and then moving on to oversee production and manage the accounting department.
“I took over as the Metro East general manager, managing papers in Troy, Nashville, and Highland,” he explained. His responsibilities extended beyond this region, contributing significantly to the business operations company-wide.
Reflecting on his new position, Hoskins emphasized his dedication to strengthening the company’s core operations. “The goal is to continue serving our communities and to strengthen our newspapers,” he said. “We want to focus on giving the community the best paper they can have.”
Hoskins also acknowledged the impact of his predecessor and father. “Greg will be sorely missed; he was my guide and mentor. I learned from the best.”
Beyond his professional commitments, Hoskins has been an active member of his community, serving as an assistant varsity coach for the boys’ and girls’ soccer teams at Mascoutah High School for nearly a decade. His involvement in local sports underscores his dedication to fostering community spirit and engagement.
The company has grown significantly since Hoskins joined full-time, expanding from approximately 10 newspapers to nearly 50 publications and multiple media outlets.
Better Newspapers currently owns four daily newspapers, 35 weeklies, five magazines, and seven radio stations across Illinois and Missouri, along with three press plants in Altamont, Park Hills and Centralia.
