Triad’s volleyball team had a strong showing last week, defeating Waterloo, the #13-ranked squad in the state, according to MaxPreps, and captured a runner-up finish in their hosted tournament over the weekend.
The first set against Waterloo did not go in the Lady Knights’ favor, dropping that set 25-15. There was no ounce of quit in them, as they relentlessly captured the final two sets, 25-21 and 25-23.
Sophomore Josie Stottler led the way amongst Triad hitters with eight kills. Junior Allison Adomite, sophomore Cooper Govreau and freshman Adelyn Sievers all notched six kills for the Knights as well. Freshman Claire Bugger was serving fireballs as she collected four aces during the match. Senior Erica Boyce led the team in solo blocks with two.
Despite dropping the Oct. 2 match to Mascoutah in two sets, the Lady Knights came back with a vengeance in their weekend invite at Triad High School.

The Oct. 3 matches resulted in victories over East St. Louis and Staunton with a loss to Glenwood, setting them up for a semifinal match against Freeburg on Oct. 4. After defeating Freeburg in three sets, a rematch between Triad and Glenwood decided the invite champion. Glenwood did not show any signs of weakness as they captured the top spot.
Triad continues the back end of their regular season schedule against Highland and East St. Louis this week and will host Civic Memorial on Oct. 14 and travel to Waterloo on Oct. 16.
