Collinsville home demolition on Clarence Street approved

by Randy Pierce • Located at 500 Clarence Street in Collinsville, a dwelling formerly serving its owner as the headquarters for a business specializing in scrap metals and woodworking is scheduled to be demolished as a result of action taken by the St. Clair County Board at its regular monthly meeting held on Monday, September 29.

The frame bungalow-type home, built in 1960 and measuring 1306 square feet, had been known as “Rooster’s Clean Out” and is one of seven structures, the others being located further south, slated for demolition per the passage of a resolution.

East of Black Lane and south of Eva Street, 500 Clarence Street, situated in the area referred to as State Park Place, is within the corporate boundaries of St. Clair County which take in a part of Collinsville not covered by Madison County.

With the cost of the demolition set at $11,448, the structure will be removed by Murphy Excavating and Contracting of Clinton County, Illinois which provided a quote of $82,846, that was the lowest of four bids submitted in August, for all of the work mentioned herein.

The Murphy company has 90 days from receiving a notice to proceed from St. Clair County for completing all of the demolitions, is responsible for removal of all debris after the houses, deemed to be unsafe and not suitable for occupancy, are taken down and required to comply with all applicable federal, state and county regulations.
