Kahok girls’ basketball team knocks off East St. Louis

The Collinsville girls’ basketball squad picked up a win in four starts in the past couple of weeks.

They won at East St. Louis while dropping a Southwestern Conference battle to Alton and non-conference games with Granite City and at Waterloo.

ESL victory

Collinsville picked up its sixth win of the season on Jan. 13 with a big 65-34 win at East St. Louis.

CHS buried 11 threes on the night.

The Kahoks jumped out to a 16-8 advantage after one quarter and led 35-14 at the half.

They outscored the Flyerettes 30-20 in the second half on their way to the 31-point win.

Three Kahoks scored in double figures with Addison Muniz leading the way with 15 markers and six boards. She hit a trio of threes as well.

Jayla Wysinger had 12 points, including two threes. Morgan Harris-Golliday had 11 with a team-high seven rebounds.

Ashley Janini had three assists with Darianna Morris grabbing three steals.

Alton loss

Collinsville dropped a big decision to Alton on Jan. 15 at Fletcher Gym.

Wysinger had six points with Aubrey Bordini scoring five. Harris-Golliday had three points.

Muniz, Karly VanDyke and Allison Fox all had four rebounds each.

Morris had four steals.

Alton, the ninth-ranked team in Class 4A, put up 63 points in moving to 16-2 on the season.

It was the second time this season Alton has beaten the Kahoks.

Granite City loss

Collinsville dropped a 40-27 contest to Granite City in the CHS Auxiliary Gym on Jan. 21.

The Kahoks held a 10-7 lead at the half but the Warriors turned it on in the final 16 minutes to take the victory.

CHS was led by Bordini and Janini with seven points each.

Other team highs included Morris with nine rebounds and two steals. Janini had three assists with Muniz blocking a pair of Granite City shot attempts.

Granite moved to 16-5 on the season with the victory.

Waterloo

Collinsville fell 52-40 on Jan. 23 at Waterloo.

The Kahoks trailed 9-8 after one quarter of play but the Bulldogs went on a scoring binge to go up 26-17 at the half.

CHS 37-27 after three before the home team put the game away in the fourth.

Waterloo won the game at the free throw line by going 14-for-18 or 77.8 percent for the game.

CHS Schedule

On Jan. 27, the girls were at Belleville East however results were unavailable at press time.

They travel to O’Fallon on Jan. 29 at night before hosting Centralia on Jan. 31.

On Feb. 3, they are at Granite City, then they host Father McGivney on Feb. 4.
