Collinsville man charged with domestic battery

By Randy Pierce • Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Haine has announced that Larry E. Declue Jr., 27, of Collinsville has been charged with aggravated domestic battery, a Class 2 felony, in connection with an incident occurring in late May when he allegedly used his hands to choke a member of his family or household twice.

Per Haine’s announcement, Illinois Third District Circuit Associate Judge John Hackett has granted a request from the state’s attorney to deny the pre-trial release of Declue due to his potential threat to public safety requiring continued detention.

On May 29, Declue is accused of wrapping his hands around the victim’s neck along with threatening to kill the unidentified individual he was holding, only stopping when another family intervened. Declue then allegedly attempted to choke the victim a second time, this case having been investigated by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.

The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
