Kahok boys bowlers take fourth in Springfield

COLLINSVILLE — When you’re competing against the best in the state, results can be hard for a young team. That’s exactly what the Collinsville boys bowling team experienced Dec. 2 at the Abe Lincoln Invitational at King Pin Lanes in Springfield.
CHS finished fourth behind the top three teams at last year’s state tournament.
Salem won the day with a pinfall total of 6505 while Mascoutah and O’Fallon were second and third. That’s exactly how they finished last February at state.
“Unfortunately every time we go to a tournament the top one, two, and three returning state titleists are in every tournament we’re in for the most part,” said CHS coach Sean Hay.
Collinsville was led by Hayden LaDrew and his 1259 total on the day including a 663 series after the turn. He took 11th place.
He had five games above 200 including 238, 223, 211, 204 and 202.
Shane Box had a 224, Daniel Wilde a 223 and a 202. Jace Coats fired a 217 and Jack Starr had a 205.
“There was some rotation going on,” said Hay. “It’s the first time we’ve taken eight to a tournament. We’re trying to see who’s going to step up and take those spots. We’re trying to find that lineup that just clicks.”
While the Kahoks still finished behind those three teams, Hay remained optimistic.
“I still like where we’re headed,” said Hay. “You’d always like to be one of those one, two, or threes but this group will get there for sure. It will just take some time.”
Conner Lunning of O’Fallon rolled a 1464 for the championship.
Edwardsville win
The boys beat Edwardsville 29.5-10.5 on Nov 29.
Wilde had the high game with a 229 and added a 205.
LaDrew had the high series with a 639. He rolled 221, 212, 206 for his day.
O’Fallon
On Nov. 27 the boys went to O’Fallon. Wilde had the high series with 632 including games of 244 and 214.
LaDrew shot a 202 for his high game.
