Illinois State Police arrest Missouri man for first-degree murder after Venice shooting
EAST ST. LOUIS – Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 6 Special Agents arrested 18-year-old Jason A. McCallum of Florissant, MO for two counts of First-Degree Murder (Class M Felony) following a deadly shooting in Venice, IL.
On May 26, 2026, the Venice Police Department requested ISP’s assistance with a homicide investigation in the 1200 Block of Selb Street. Officers located a deceased victim in a vehicle with gunshot wounds, now identified as 38-year-old Travion Sherrod of Madison, IL.
After a thorough investigation, ISP Special Agents identified McCallum as a suspect. On May 30, 2026, McCallum was taken into custody following a flight at St. Louis Lambert International Airport with the assistance of the airport police and the St. Louis County Police Department. On June 1, 2026, Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office filed the First-Degree Murder charges for McCallum. He is being held in St. Louis County pending extradition back to Illinois.
