TROY — Taking a trip to Quincy Senior High School proved worthwhile for Triad wrestling last week.

The Knights, who took fourth overall, bested seven other squads at the meet. Triad also placed in 11 of the tournament’s weight classes.

With a 4-0 record, Will Kelly was one of two Knights to win his weight class. The 106 pound sophomore won all of his matches via pin and only went to a second round once.

Triad’s other class champion, Colby Crouch, finished 5-0 at 126. His longest match went 38 seconds before he secured a pin in the first-place bout.

The standout senior picked up another feather in his cap at Quincy: his one hundredth high school win. His record as a Knight currently stands at 102-3.

Ben Baumgartner also reached the first-place bout for the Knights, starting with two wins in his pool at 132 pounds. Other wins via pin and injury pushed him to the crowning match, where he fell in a 5-4 decision.

Competing at 113, Shane Seip added on a third-place finish for Triad. After winning both of his pool matches with first-round pins, he won his first bracketed match with a pin after three minutes and three seconds.

The freshman Knight dropped his semi-final bout to eventual winner Hugh Sharrow before rebounding for a 7-4 decision in the third-place match.

Another top-three Knight was Glen Henry, he won two pool matches with pins and lost the other in a 7-4 decision. He added two more pins sandwiched around a 12-3 defeat to 120 pound winner Deshawn Armstrong.

Brody Smith, Triad’s representative at 138 pounds, started with a second-round pin and a 7-1 decision victory. The second-year Knight opened his bracket with another pin before ending up in fourth-place off losses by way of pin and sudden victory.

The Knights earned another fourth-place finish courtesy of Landon Busch. After starting his bracket with a second-round pin, he found himself on the wrong side of the 285 semi-final to eventual winner Todd Smith. Busch later lost the third-place match in a 7-0 decision.

For a sixth-place finish, Camden Wise scored a pin just 19 seconds into the second round of the consolation semi-final. The 175 pounder fell via a late pin in the fifth-place matchup.

In the 190 division, Bobby Patterson took a similar route to sixth-place. He recorded his first win with a nine second pin in the consolation semi-final before losing the fifth-place faceoff in a sudden victory.

To secure seventh-place at 144, Jacob Perez started with a pin in three minutes and 27 seconds for the Knights. After being pinned in consecutive multi-round bouts, he clinched seventh-place due to an injury forfeit.

At 150, Pearce Goodfield notched eighth place for Triad. His lone win of the tournament was a pin that took 51 seconds.
