Troy sewer, water rates to rise on May 1

Residents in Troy and those who live outside city limits but use the city’s water and sewer services will all see rate hikes starting next month.

City Administrator Jay Keeven indicated on April 21 that the city provides water to residents with the financial goal of “breaking even.”

“Water production and distribution is included within an enterprise fund, which we budget to break even,” he noted. “Each year, our costs for materials, supplies and labor increases and the rates increase to keep up with the costs to provide safe water to our residents.”

For the first 2,000 gallons of water used, the new in-city rate will be $16.88, 80 cents more than in 2024. The out-of-city water rate will jump from $26.80 for the first 2,000 gallons to $28.14 for the same amount of water.

On the sewer side of the ledger, in-city sewer rates will go up a dollar to $13.52 from 2024’s rate while out-of-city users will see an increase of almost $2; from $21.95 to $23.71.

According to the city’s website, these rates will continue to increase until 2029. Sewer and water tap-on fees will remain the same until further notice.
