Two Triad alums among three new Glen Carbon Police officers sworn in

By Kathy Turner • The Glen Carbon Board meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 12 was brief but eventful. The meeting opened with the swearing in of three new police officers. Members of their families and fellow officers attended to witness Brennan Bauer, Michael Brown and Riley Storey take their oath of office and receive their official badges.
Bauer is a Troy resident and Triad High alum who graduated from SIUE in 2022 with a degree in business and specialization in cybersecurity.
Brown brings a wealth of experience as an officer. He was born in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina and grew up in North St. Louis. He graduated from SIUE in 2001 with degrees in economics and mathematics. He then worked in Glen Carbon as a police officer before leaving to serve for 21 years with the Collinsville Police Department. He will serve as a field training officer.

Storey is a Troy resident and a Triad High alumna. She graduated in 2020 from Lewis and Clark Community College with a degree in criminal justice. During that time, she interned with the Glen Carbon Police Department. She went on to work for three years with the Alton Police Department and departed with the rank of patrolman first class and a field training officer.
During the announcements, Mayor Bob Marcus reminded residents of the upcoming Kicks on 66 Car Show on Saturday, Sept. 6. More than 600 cars will be on display. There will be vendors, food trucks, and refreshments available. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The board approved a resolution to re-subdivide Outlot 13 of the Orchard Town Center. The outlot is the location of Dick’s Sporting Goods and the building to the southeast that will house retail shops and a restaurant. The resolution will divide the lot into an A and B side, separating Dick’s Sporting Goods from the other building and small park.
A representative from Staenberg Group, that is the developer of the center, indicated that larger footprint merchants often separated from other smaller buildings for management, maintenance and financial reasons after construction has been completed. The advantage of first developing the site is consistency in design and aesthetics.
The board also approved a resolution authorizing $200,000 in Motor Fuel Tax funds. The funds will be used on the first phase of Glen Carbon Road’s Shared-use Path.
The board’s next meeting will be held on Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. in village hall, located at 151 N. Main St.
