Summer road projects approved in Glen Carbon

By Kathy Turner • The Glen Carbon Village Board on July 14 approved the submitted bid to complete road projects in the village this summer. The bid from Christ Brothers Asphalt was approved at $884,899.06, the lowest of five submitted bids.

This year’s summer road projects will be on Village Drive, Village Circle, Peachtree Lane and a new cul-de-sac on Collinsville Street. Village engineers had estimated more than $1.2 million for the project. Because the bids were sufficiently lower, Scott Slemer, the Director of Public Works, will speak with the appropriate vendors to look at doing additional street replacements this summer. 

The approved work should begin in August of this year and continue until early fall.

Also under public works, the board approved a resolution accepting improvements made by contractors to the Meridian Grove portion of Meridian Plaza. The improvements completed were sanitary sewers, water main, storm sewer and roadways in this portion of the development. This is part of the process for new developments to have these items approved for the city to accept them as part of the village-maintained infrastructure. 

The next meeting of the board will be held on Tuesday, July 28 at 7 p.m.
